Andrew Quick
Musical Director
Originally
from Bristol, Andrew has lived most of his life in Cardiff, having
graduated from the University of Surrey with a degree in Music and
Applied Physics. He has a wide range of experience in both professional
and amateur music as a performer and TV music producer, having worked
in many major venues and having taken part in several memorable musical
tours around Europe. As
a conductor, he has led his local community mixed choir in a wide range
of programmes of music from Allegri to Verdi, and instigated events
such as “Bernstein and Burgers”, and “Puccini and Pasta”, making
music within a sociable environment. As the first Musical
Director of Bois Goetre-Hen a’r Cylch, he led the choir in many
successful performances in both Wales and England, which included a
concert with Peter Karrie, and an appearance at Bridge FM’s Help for
Heroes Awards Night. Andrew has also sung with a number of
Wales’s leading mixed choirs – including the Cardiff Ardwyn Singers,
Cardiff Polyphonic Choir, and Swansea Bach Choir. Currently he sings
with Cantemus.
As
a TV Music Producer, which included over a decade on the BBC staff, he
was privileged to learn directly from leading conductors, and to work
regularly with international class music making, both choral and
instrumental. The many programme credits have included BBC Proms,
Cardiff Singer of the World, as well as Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year,
and coverage of the Llangollen Eisteddfod. His film documentary
on Shen Xiang, a Beijing based singing teacher with several students
having success in the west, was widely acclaimed. Andrew was also
the video director of the Tallis Scholars’ “Live in Rome” performance
in Santa Maria Maggiore which was a runner up in the Gramophone
Magazine’s video of the year award in 1995 and a best buy in the
Classic FM Magazine.
Andrew
joined the Cwmbach music team as Deputy Conductor at the end of 2011.
He took on the role of Associate Conductor in January 2012 and was
appointed Musical Director in April 2012. Andrew looks forward to a
growing and fruitful relationship in the years to come.
Benjamin Pinnow
Deputy Musical Director
Ben
Pinnow is a South Wales based choral conductor, accompanist singer,
composer and musical educator with over ten years musical experience.
He is currently studying on the Masters Choral Conducting Programme at
the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying under Neil Ferris,
Sarah Tenant-Flowers and Simon Halsey.
Ben has a varied and wide experience the world of music as repetiteur, performer and accompanist. As well as his work with Cwmbach Male Choir, Ben is also at the present time Musical Director of Cor Cyfoes, Opera Mint, Dodecantus UK, and Roath Community Chorus.
Ben
also works with Radyr Parish Music Group and Wales International
Academy of Voice. He has worked as MD with Llandaff Musical Society
and also with RWCMD as Assistant Chorus Master to name a few.
Ben is also an accomplished pianist and holds the ABRSM Diploma in Performance (piano) - Distinction
Jayne Thomas Accompanist
 Originally from Neath but now living in Cardiff Jayne is a Music Graduate of Goldsmiths College, London.
She teaches piano, keyboard, music theory and groupsinging privately, at schools and Adult Education Centres.
Jayne
is involved with local Operatic Societies and it was at "Opera Mint"
that she renewed an association with Emyr Wyn Roberts who was Musical
Director at Cwmbach Male Choir at the time. This meeting resulted in her
being introduced to Cwmbach Male Choir. From that time on Jayne has
grown from strength to strength as accompanist to Cwmbach Male Choir.
Jayne, a competent soloist on piano in her own right, has also delighted audiences with her classical and modern repertoire.
Jayne frequently accompanies artists appearing with the Choir throughout the United Kingdom and on regular tours abroad.
